Inspire Mark awarded to Cauldrons & Furnaces project
Former British triple jumper, Olympic Gold medallist and London 2012 Nations and Regions Group Deputy Chair Jonathan Edwards CBE launched celebrations around 1000 Days To Go to the London 2012 Games by visiting Caerphilly Castle by meeting people from the south Wales region who are inspired by and benefiting from the Games.
Jonathan officially launched celebrations around Cadw’s 25th anniversary at Wales’ largest Castle, Caerphilly Castle, where he awarded an Inspire Mark - the badge of the Inspire programme which recognises projects and events inspired by London 2012 - to the Cauldrons and Furnaces project. The Castle is one of the locations for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad inspired Cauldrons and Furnaces initiative, which Cadw is delivering in partnership with the Arts Council of Wales over four years.

Performance by the Phoenix Dance Team
Jonathan and the audience also enjoyed performances by Triawd, an acapella trio who won ‘Caerphilly’s Got Talent 2008’ and the Phoenix Dance Team who are members of Creazione Dance Company.

St Martin's Comprehensive School, Caerphilly create large-scale flags
Printmakers Jane Taylor and Amy Ison, worked with year 8/9 pupils from St Martin’s Comprehensive school in Caerphilly. Pupils took the opportunity to visit the Castle, take photos and make sketches of objects and elements at the castle. These were then transferred using various printing techniques to large-scale flags.
Twyn Primary School, Caerphilly create felt banners
Artists Alice Smith and Beth Sanders worked with pupils from year 5 of Twyn Primary School, Caerphilly creating large felt banners with motifs, symbols and colours inspired by the medieval shields in the Great Hall at the Castle.
